MCS is the only private school on Guam with a cafeteria and nutrition program inspected and qualified as satisfactory to participate in the National School Lunch Program. This federal program provides qualified students with free or reduced breakfast and lunch. MCS’s menu meets or exceeds all applicable federal nutrition and serving requirements. The MCS Chef prepares all meals on campus in plain view. We encourage parents to join their children for a great breakfast at MCS each morning!
MCS is one of many schools utilizing the Skinner’s Plaza Transfer Station. We are the only school providing a Safety Officer at Skinners to ensure the well being of any MCS students utilizing the bus transfer station. Many of our students come from Yigo and other villages around our island, and we strive to make their bussing experience a pleasant one. A large number of parents also pick up and drop off their children at Skinner’s. After 4 years of utilizing the island wide bussing system MCS has not experienced any major problems and we will continue to protect our students by providing Safety Officers at MCS and at Skinner’s Plaza.
The Western Association of Schools and Colleges is the accrediting body for all elementary and middle schools in this region. During their most recent visit, the reviewing committee chaired by Dr. John Collins awarded MCS the maximum number of years allowable for an interim visit. The Committee commented, “While many schools across the United States are cutting portions of their educational programs, Mount Carmel School maintains a full curriculum and could compete with the best schools in the nation. MCS is the next Harvard of Guam!”
Busing is available for students from every village on Guam. Historically, students from all villages would attend private schools like Father Duenas in Mangilao, Notre Dame in Talofofo, or the Academy of Our Lady in Hagåtña.
